Mayo Clinic is evaluating weighted blankets to reduce agitation

Mayo Clinic is conducting a study from April 2018 through June 2021 wherein hospitalized individuals with dementia will be provided weighted blankets for use at night.

These blankets will weigh 10 percent of their body weight.

Nursing staff will complete assessments that measure behavioral disturbances. A control group will not be provided the weighted blankets but will undergo nursing assessments.
